September 6th, 2013

The students, members and Citizens of the Moorish Science Temple The Divine and National Movement of North America, Inc; #13 The Moorish American National Republic in New York Republic (New York City) participated in the 2013 West Indian American Day Parade for the second year in a row. As part of the activities on the public side, the Moorish Americans wanted to make their presence known in their area so that their people can learn about nationality, history, civics, constitutional law, government, Prophet Noble Drew Ali and the Moorish movement. There is a great cry of abuse and misuse happening among those who are identified, classified and described as black, colored, West Indian, Latino, aboriginal, Black Indian, Autochthon, Indigenous, Paleo, Amerindian, Native American, Native Indian, etc. The Moorish Americans are bringing awareness of Prophet Noble Drew Ali and the Moorish movement which was started in 1913 to bring solutions and end the suffering that many acquire through ignorance of law and history.

Some of the students and members who are government minded Moors thought it would be a good idea if the Sheiks did a quick meet and greet with some of the city’s government and political officials that was attending the parade; so the Sheiks agreed. Below you will see some pictures with the Moors meeting city officials. While the Moors were marching in the parade many people were curious on who the Moors were and why the Moroccan flag from North Africa was in the parade. However many of them were QUICKLY educated by the Moors on who they are, the connection with Moors and the Caribbean Islands, and the Moorish flag which is over 10,000 years old.

Interestingly enough, a few Moroccans were in the audience and shocked to see the flag they shared in North Africa in the parade. One of the Sheiks explain to one of the female Moroccans about the Moorish empire that span continents, and why the Moors are flying the flag in the west. As the Moors continued people were in awe and wonder about the Moorish organization. A male news reporter told the Moors he saw the bright Moorish flag waving in the air as it was coming down the street and he asked a police officer “what is the Moroccan flag doing in the parade?” As we got closer he said “Ok, it makes sense now, Moorish Americans are here”. The news reporter greeted the Moors and said he was very happy to see us in the parade and that it’s wonderful what we are doing.

Every now and then the Moors were stopped by photographers and video personal who wanted to capture the sight of the eye catching Moorish Americans in the parade. People in the crowd had their cameras and cellphones in hand recording and snapping away. The audience was heard yelling “Peace”, “Islam” and “As-salamu alaykum” as the Moors walked by; for some of the people were aware of some form of Islamic or ancient greeting of peace associated with the Moors. The Moorish Americans accomplish their goal of showing political presence and a sign of resurrection within the city. Thousands upon thousands of people from the city, out of State and international tourists witness the Moorish Americans demonstrate.
