On February 8th 2014, the First Annual Harambee Fest in Raleigh, North Carolina sponsored by ‘Knotti by Nature Hair Salon’ was held at the Ezra Conference Center for the recognition of Black History Month. This event included a marketplace with small business owners, vendors, entertainment, workshops, children’s fun space, and a key note speaker. One of the owners of this Hair Salon, LaShawn Collins, is a relative of Sheik Curtis McNeill-Bey and the Sheik was asked to give a lecture on the ‘Political History of the Moors in America.’ The key note speaker was Dr. Umar Johnson of ‘Hidden Colors’ and he spoke, afterwards, on the ‘Special Education and ADHD Wars against African-American boys.’ Above is a picture of Sheik McNeill-Bey on the left and Dr. Johnson on the right at this Fest.
We thank the Sheik for participating in this event and educating the masses. It was a needed demonstration especially in this so called black history month. The people in attendance can say that they saw a Moorish-American with their own eyes and was educated on who they were before slavery and more.
